Teri and Leroy are heading to Ecuador and Columbia tomorrow starting with an 8-hour bus ride to Loja leaving Piura at 9:30. We'll go to Vilcabamba, a cool resort, for a day. Then we'll bus for a few days up the central highlands to Quito for a few days, fly to Bogota for a few days, fly to Cartagena on the Carribean for a few days, fly back to Bogota & to Quito on one day, then bus back to Piura in a few days arriving on 4 Feb. We'll be watching TV or will be online watching the celebration in Washington DC on the 20th in Loja.
We've had some adventures recently and will get caught up in February. Yesterday the guy across the street fired a couple of shots from a pistol in the afternoon because a worker in the house next door was on the roof fixing the water heater and leaned a ladder against his second floor wall. The whole street was filled with cops, neighbors, vigilantes, the two antagonists, and kids playing soccer. Tonight we met two Brits our age--they're both retired psychiatric nurses and proudly socialists. They never taught before and decided to have an adventure. They've been teaching in Cusco for six months and now they'll teach at Teri's school for six months--he's planning a book about his adventures. More to come in February.
